Times Square

I a place in New York where it has been through some different times. Compared to what it was between 1960-the 1990s.

Located

It is located here in Manhattan.

Some History

So I am not going into a deep dive into history just some interesting things.

1930’s to 1950s

With the onset of the great depression in the early 1930s, people moved from the city to further uptown cheaper neighborhoods.  Thus causing the theaters to close down. Thus bringing in the saloons, brothels, burlesque halls, vaudeville stages, and dime houses. During this time frame, it wasn’t a good place to go to as it was a dangerous place to venture into. However, it was still where New Year’s eve dropped the ball every year.

From the 1960s to the 1990s

Did it change its ways? Did it become a better place than it was before? No, it still had the go-go bars. The sex shops, the peep shows, and adult theaters. This became the symbol of the city’s decline. In the 1970s and 1980s, it got worse. I mean the crime was just horrible. The streets between 42nd street and 7th and 8th avenues had over 2,000 crimes in the year 1984.  Yea, it was a horrible place to go. So I heard.

The year 2022

This is the year I stepped foot in Time Square, on Sept. 16, 2022, at around 12:30 AM. Yea, we went into the hotel.  I was excited but leary of seeing Times Square, due to what it was like in the 1980s and 1990s. But mayor Rudy Giuliani changed the way Times Square was.

I sort of wanted to experience time squares with a ton of people. Not even on Saturday, when we walked down to see what Times Square had to offer. I mean there were a lot of people. But, I was expecting you know 100,000 people to be there. That was my view of what it should be. There weren’t that many people.

We stopped at Target and saw where the ball drop happened. I Saw CBS and ABC news studios right there. The big old digital billboards.

I really liked Time Square, you just have to be aware of your surroundings, and not let people in customers trap you to get money from you. I had to rescue my father-in-law.

Thoughts

I really loved my time in Times Square, I only wished I could have spent more time there. Spending just under 2 days in New York City, the time we spent enjoying Times Square was just short.  I did find a Krispy Kreme where my father-in-law and I enjoyed some doughnuts.

IT wasn’t at all what I thought it would be. You know what it used to be. It is a place to go and see Broadway shows.  To see how New York City has changed. I would say check it out. Just not for New Year’s eve.

Oh, yea, there are New York Police Officers everywhere. They are always patrolling, by either standing or walking around.
