History

Built-in 1944, the military took over Boeing filed in World War II. The Civil Aeronautic gave $1 Million to build the airport. The first flight was a Northwest and a Trans-Canada in 1947. Moving from the Boeing field to the SeaTac airport were the following:

  • Western
  • United
  • Pan Am

Lately

They just spent $1.1 Billion on the Central Terminal building and a third runway parallel to the other 2. The older ones can’t be used in low visibility because the runways are 800ft apart.

Delta announced plans to use SeaTac as a transpacific hub in 2014. That was a surprising move. Delta added several new international and domestic flights to funnel traffic to the transpacific. This might have been a move to counter United’s transpacific hub in San Francisco.

SeaTac was an Alaska hub, and when Alaska became a member of Oneworld, one of the members made SeaTac a hub. That was American Airlines, which will help American Airlines to serve the Asia Region.

Terminals

SeaTac has the following

Concourse A16 gates
Concourse B17 gates
Concourse C27 gates
Concourse D17 gates
North Satelite20 gates
South Satelite14 gates

An underground transit system moves passengers from the satellites to the main terminal. If you are on a non-precleared international flight, you will land at the South Satellite or Concourse A gates.

As I said above, there are three parallel runways
