I have heard that people have had a hard time with the Medallion on some princess ships. Here are my thoughts.
My Thoughts
Honestly, I didn’t have any problems with the Medallion on Princess. Granted I didn’t try and order a drink on it. I didn’t have a drink package, so I didn’t bother. My wife had a drink package, she ordered a diet coke and it came. Yes, it was a bit slow. Granted they had to go to a place where they had soda and then come and find her.
Whenever I went and filled up my wife’s Stanley cup. I had her medallion and it registered her. We did get charged for some soda drinks, but they took those off due to us having the drink package.
The app
Now the app, on the other hand, was a bit slow. I am not sure if it is due to the internet speeds on the ship. I don’t know if they have servers on board that handle the medallion or if it has to reach out to a data center somewhere. I would like to find out. But I highly doubt they will give me a tour.
Having to upload everything to it, is a pain in the butt. Especially for people who aren’t tech-savvy. By the look at my cruise,

It appears that some of them might not be.
Understand
They are trying to move things to the app to make it more usable. But, uploading documents, and typing information on a smartphone in that app well, it is just a pain In the butt. Even for me. I would instead do it on a keyboard. Yes, you most likely set up a Bluetooth keyboard on your phone. I do have one, I should see if that works. But you don’t want to carry that around.
I guess this is a personal thing. I wasn’t having the issues some of the people are having.
