Black Sand Beach

When I first heard of the black sand beach, I thought it would be completely different than it was.

What I thought

I thought this was the black sand beach.

Nope, that is on another island.

Maui Black Sand

This is on the road to Hana, located in Waianapanapa State park. You HAVE to make a reservation to come to this beach. You are allowed a window of 2.5 to 3 hours. That is to arrive and to leave.  They say the staff is strict, but I didn’t see it because it was raining and we didn’t need to stay longer.

Yes, it does cost to make a reservation. I am not sure how much it costs to make this reservation. But it was from 12:30 to 3:00 PM. All sales are final and the park closes at 6 PM.

However, I forgot to bring the  QR code that was required. I got an earful. But we found it in my wife’s email.

This was a small beach. I was thinking, this isn’t the place everyone talks about. No, it wasn’t. But it was a black sand beach.

Visit there

If you are on the Road to Hana, then yes, I would suggest you stop there and check it out. Just don’t go when it rains.
