History
Known as the home of the shark goddess Ka’ahupahau. This was due to it being called Pur’uloa, due to its extensive shallow embayment. Yes, the bay is very shallow. Pearl Harbor was not used for large ships due to its shallow entrance, in the nineteenth century. As time went on the United states’ showed some interest in the Hawaiian Islands. This was due to trading and shipping activity in the Pacific.
After the overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom in 1899, the United States Navy put a base on the island. Well, that was a good thing and a bad thing. The good thing was that the United States had a Navy base there. The bad thing was the United States had a base there.
It was used to house the Pacific fleet, easy to deploy.
However, this meant that this was a good target for attack.
Attack
On Dec. 7, 1941, the Imperial Japanese navy decided to attack the Naval base. Yes, they moved in early that Sunday morning and attacked the Naval and Airforce bases.
With the shallow bay, the Japanese developed special devices for the torpedo to operate. They sent some midget submarines. This attack brought the United States into World War II. Maybe mistake, but it happened.
This is where the warship Arizona rests. and 1,177 crewmen lay here. Hit by four armor-piercing bombs hit Arizona, one of them smashed thru the deck and landed in the armory room before it went off.

My Thoughts
This is my second time coming here. I am overwhelmed by what happened there. I like to find out all the history I can about WWII. The way Pearl Harbor was attacked and the reason why. They did awaken the sleeping giant. The lives lost there, the 1,177 people lost in Arizona when it sank. It just overwhelms me.
If you have a chance to go then go.
