The time we celebrate our Independence day here in the USA, this wasn’t when we beat the British to become the United States of America. But something else happened.
Year 1776
In this building here
This thing called the Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4, 1776. What did this mean?
Continental Congress
Who is the Continental Congress one might ask? It is the delegates from all the colonies in America at that time. Which was 13 of them. They meet in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
They sat in this room
They declared that the 13 American colonies were no longer subject to King George III, which was the monarch of Britain at that time. They declared that they are free, independent states, and United. Yea that didn’t go over well and that started the Revolutionary war. The 13 colonies won and became the United States of America.
Federal Holiday
July 4th is set aside as a national holiday where people get together to celebrate their freedom in the following ways
- Parades
- Barbecues
- Carnivals
- Fairs
- Picnics
- Baseball games
- Family reunions

Traveling With Justin
We here at travelingwithjustin.com are proud to support this day. I remember when I was in Philadelphia and saw where all of this was done at. It brings a somber feeling to me. That the delegates risked their lives to stand up for Freedom. I will always be grateful for what they did.
