Exploring Ogden Point: Victoria’s Cruise Ship Hub

We have discussed the city of Victoria before (https://travelingwithjustin.com/victoria-bc/), but we have never discussed the Port of Victora.

The Port

It is called Ogden Point, and it is a deep-water port. It is full of many things.

  • Heliport Services
  • Repair facility for
    • Cruise ships
    • Deep sea cable laying ships

Located

Cruise ships

The cruise ship port is the busiest port of call in Canada. Yes, it is. You can have up to 250 ships from late April to mid-October. All the ships can carry up to 4,500 passengers. Most of these visits are single-day visits due to cruises from

  • Los Angles
  • San Francisco
  • Seattle

For Alaska Cruises and some cruises that are doing the Pacific Northwest Cruise ending in either Vancouver or Seattle.

The port has a two-finger pier—one for the North and one for the South.

The North Finger extends for 800 ft.

The South Finger extends for 1,100 ft.

Adding some mooring dolphins, the Pier B berths were extended to 1,040 ft.

The Canada Border Services Agency is located at each of the piers.

Thoughts

It is a part that allows cruise ship passengers to tour Victora, BC. It is an excellent little port, and I’m pretty sure to navigate around it.
