On April 6, 2013, Thomas S. Monson, the president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, announced that Cedar City, Utah would get a temple. Bringing, the total number of temples worldwide up to 170.

This marks the 17th temple in the state of Utah. The temple had an open house from October 27 to November 18, 2017. It was open 6 days a week. Sundays it was not open.
