WIFI on the Quantum of the Seas

It is becoming routine for us Jenkins to get the Internet on these cruises. So, how was it aboard the Quantum of the Seas?

Price of Internet

First, look at the internet prices on the Quantum of the Seas. It is $26.99 a day per person. Yeah, that is a lot of money. If you do the math, it comes out to be $188.93 for the week. That is for one person and one device.

If you use more than one device, the price is reduced. We did a two-device package, and it was $296.83, so about a 20% discount. I only used my wife’s Internet for one of my devices to try to get a code for one of my accounts. That never worked, but I got in after some time.

Internet

Royal Caribbean has StarLink on its ships. Now, is it the fastest thing on Earth? No, it isn’t. You are at sea, and you are moving, and the signal tries to keep up. But it isn’t the best.

Also, I have an Apple Device, so it is sometimes hard for me to get specific texts. Let’s say I need a verification code for access to a website or something, then, well, it isn’t going to happen. Plus, I won’t get those texts from certain people who use Android cell phones.

I uploaded a video for my @iamjustjustin YouTube channel, and it took about 35 to 45 minutes to upload. At home, it would take between 1 and 3 minutes, depending on what is going on with my network.

But I was Apple to upload a video at sea. Now, for traveling withJustin’ss YouTube channel, I made a video that I uploaded to go live or published on Sept. 23, 2024, which took about three and a half hours.

Worth it

It all depends on what you are going to use it for. If you cannot use TikTok or social media in general, it would be cheaper to stay home and never leave your room. But if you use it for work, uploading videos, and other things, then you might need it. But if you plan on doing conference calls, Zoom calls, team calls, and videos, then you might want to rethink that. FaceTime was OKK, but not that great.

But my wife needs it, well, wants it, and I used to look at emails and upload the occasional video to my YouTube channels, so the cost is okay.

So I will ask you the question again.

Is it worth that cost?

It depends on you and your wants and desires.

Thoughts

Yes, the Internet is expensive on a cruise. But nowadays, it seems necessary. Our lives are so intertwined with the Internet and everything happening that it is hard to step away for a week.

But, like I said, it is something that I need to run my business, regardless of how small it is. I am always striving to make it better.
