Saturday, July 1 we left Eureka and I didn’t find Sheriff Carter. On our way out of town, we stopped by the Fort Humboldt Visitor Center which was built to make railroad ties from the redwoods.

Trinidad Lighthouse

After that, we headed over to Trinidad light house and it was smaller than I thought a light house should be. There was a very unstable walk down to the beach. I made it down to the bottom but, I didn’t finish it due to my back. But it was a great view.

Fern Canyon

Next, we went to Fern Canyon, it was a bit bumpy ride to get there, but it was worth it. It was crowded and it was a water walk. Meaning that you will most likely get wet. I hiked in my tennis shoes not in

• Flip flops
• Water shoes
• Other types of shoes

Yes, I got my feet wet, but oh well right. We ate lunch there some peanut butter sandwiches and a Mountain Dew.

Jedediah Smith Redwoods

Next stop was Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, Stout Memorial Grove. That was 8 miles and it was bumpy, narrow dirt road. We got there and walked around and looked at some more red wood trees and just how big they are.

Once that was done we found that we could drive three miles and get to Crescent City the back way. We elected to go that way instead of going back the 8 miles.

Crescent City

Got to the hotel,  Light House Inn, check in and then went to The Good Harvest Cafe, which was within walking distance. I had a Ruben and it was good. Found out that there was a Tsunami here in Crescent City on March 11, 2011. Here is a picture:

We then went out to the Lighthouse and it was the beginning of high tide so we will have to go back tomorrow morning to see the light house up close and personal.

We then went out to the pier and saw some people crabbing and they had some pretty big ones. They didn’t want to get out of the cages and I don’t blame them.

Back to the Lighthouse Inn for the night.
