Standing majestically against the backdrop of the towering Wasatch Mountains, the Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple serves as a sacred landmark and spiritual anchor for thousands of Latter-day Saints in Utah County and beyond
Nestled in the heart of American Fork, Utah, the Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple represents both architectural beauty and profound spiritual significance. Nestled below the lofty, 11,750-foot mountain in central Utah from which its name is taken, this sacred edifice has been a cornerstone of faith for the community since its dedication nearly three decades ago.
Location
The temple’s location at 742 N 900th E, American Fork, UT 84003, makes it prominent within the community and easily accessible to members throughout Utah County and surrounding areas.
History
The MT. Timpanogos Utah Temple was the ninth temple built in Utah and the second temple in Utah County since the Provo Utah Temple was built in 1972.
If you look at the floor plan of the temple, it is similar to the Bountiful Utah Temple.
This was a welfare farm for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Community
Before its dedication, the temple served as a source of unity and excitement for the entire community. A remarkable 679,217 people toured the temple during its six-week public open house from August 10 to September 21, 1996. This extraordinary attendance demonstrated the community’s widespread interest and reverence for their new temple.
The musical celebration was one of the most memorable aspects of the open house. More than 800 children’s choirs, composed of members from nearly every ward and branch in the temple district, performed near the temple’s front entrance at least once during the event. This massive coordinated effort, featuring hundreds of young voices, created an atmosphere of joy and celebration that many attendees remember fondly.
The temple’s construction also dramatically captured public attention. In July 1995, when the angel Moroni was lifted to its resting place atop the temple’s 190-foot spire, twenty thousand people gathered in the streets to witness the event. This moment symbolized the completion of the temple’s exterior and marked a significant milestone in the construction process.
