Lunch in Skagway, Quanturm

We decided to eat lunch off the ship and at a place a TikToker recommended. Was it worth it?

Here is the video that inspired my wife to go there.

Skagway brewing Company in Skagway Alaska has the best spruce tip beer and halibut fish and chips. I have been eating here for over 10 years and I never get tired of the food. #fishandchips #skagwayalaska #skagway #alaskafood #cruiseship #livingonacruiseship #cruiseshipliving #fishtok #halibut @SBC Skagway Brewing Company

Skagway Brewery

We found the place, and it was busy as hell. We waited about 20 minutes for a table upstairs in the Restaurant. They have a pub where you could sit as well, but we opted for the restaurant.

It was a happening place, and they were busy during the cruise ship port days. If we had waited about 45 minutes, there would have been no one in line, but that is OK.

Food

They had several different foods, but they are famous for the fish and chips, which was why we were there.

We got the following:

  • Two orders for the Fish and Chips
    • $33.99 each
  • I got some coleslaw
    • $2.49
  • My wife got a Diet Coke
    • $3.50 and one refill
  • I got the Draft Root Beer
    • $6.50
      • No refills

I was looking for the ice-cold root beer cup on the drink menu, but I couldn’t find it. Mine didn’t come out in a cold mug.

Root beer

It was good. I mean, it wasn’t like to die for, but it was good. I drank the whole thing, but I didn’t get a refill. It is also caffeine-free. So that is always a plus. Well, for me, it is a plus. However, I was disappointed it didn’t come out in a frosted mug. I was looking for it.

Fish and Chips

The fish was freshly caught halibut. There were two pieces. If you do the math, it is about $15 for each one. Then, the fries were made of the rest.

The fish was pretty good; it was crispy, pleasant, and flaky. It was some of the best fish and chips I have tasted. The tartar sauce was good.

Coleslaw

This was just OK; I have had better and worse. I guess I am just a coleslaw snob. No, I am not a snob.

Worth it

Was it worth the price tag and the wait? That all depends on you and your expectations. For me, the fish was good. However, the Root beer was OK; I looked forward to that ice-cold glass. It was a nice cold day outside, and they were busy. But I was expecting that ice-cold glass. So, if you are reading this, don’t expect it.  Then, if you get it, it will exceed your exceptions, and if you don’t, you aren’t let down.
