Hotels vs Airbnb: Which One Should You Choose?   Recently updated !

I guess it is not the age-old question, but it is a newer one. Which one is better? Let’s find out what I think.

Years

I have always booked hotels, never Airbnb’s, just because hotels were the way to go. I have booked a couple of bed-and-breakfast places, and that was a unique experience. But Hotels have been the way to go. But lately, we have centered on Virgo or Airbnb. Different reasons why I book them

Hotels

These serve a purpose, a place to stay overnight, or for a couple of days. They provide the following:

  • Place to sleep
  • Place to hang out
  • Place to eat
    • Either a free breakfast
    • A paid place to eat
    • Free cookies
  • WiFi, sometimes free
  • Just somewhere you can go to during the day if you are staying a couple of days.
  • Sometimes it is just overnight.

They are very convenient for travelers.

What I like and dislike about Hotels

Dislike

  • The pool is small and crowded
  • Hot tubs are crowded
  • Fitness rooms are small, and not much use is made of them
  • Pay for laundry if they have it
  • Restaurants are expensive
  • Visitors sit on your bed and talk
  • Lobbies are pretty busy, nowhere to sit and talk or reflect

Like

  • Don’t have to wash the sheets, towels
  • Will bring you extra towels
  • You can go and ask things at the front desk
  • Free Cookies
    • Depends on where you stay
  • Shuttle service available
  • Locations are better
    • Closer to things

Airbnb

For the more extended stay, they offer a place to do the following:

  • Place to sleep
  • Place to hang out
  • Place to eat
    • You provide the food
  • A place to store food
    • Fridge
  • Place to do Laundry
  • WiFi

Con’s

  • No one to make your bed
  • You have to do all the dishes
  • Wash some towels
  • Wash the sheets
    • Well start them
  • Clean out the fridge

What I like and dislike about Airbnb

Dislike

  • Not having someone do everything for you
    • Like bed sheets
    • Taking out the garbage
    • Cleaning up everything

Like

  • Real fridge
  • Washer and dryer
  • Can have others come over, and there is plenty of room to visit and not just sit on the beds to talk.
  • Usually have access to workout rooms, clubs, swimming pools, hot tubs, and open courtyards with places to sit and reflect.

Verdict

That is all up to you. However, I will continue to use both of them. Hotels for that overnight stay before I jump on a cruise ship.

Use Airbnb if it will be a more extended stay. On my most recent trip to St. George, we stayed for 3 days and booked an Airbnb, which was cheaper than a hotel.

But it is all up to you and what you like and don’t like.
