The European Union (EU) is setting up its own digital entry and exit system for the union. What is this all about? Well, let’s find out.
European Union
One can ask what the EU is. Well, it is a group of countries that have adopted the same. Here you go
Austria | Belgium | Bulgaria |
Croatia | Czech Republic | Denmark |
Estonia | Finland | France |
Germany | Hungary | Italy |
Latvia | Lithuania | Luxembourg |
Malta | Netherlands | Poland |
Portugal | Romania | Slovakia |
Slovenia | Spain | Sweden |
What is EES?
Entry, Exit System. So, what are the benefits of the EES, one asks. Well, I guess it helps out with things. Like,
- It modernizes the management of the Eu’s external borders, gradually improving the travel experience.
- It helps with finding people who overstay and provides reliable data on entries, exits, and refusals.
- It will effectively combat identity fraud by collecting biometric data.
- Security within the EU will be strengthened thanks to improved border checks. It will also benefit from the use of electronic records and biometric data.
- The EES promotes real-time information sharing, ensuring that border authorities across the EU always have the correct information.
Data collected
Some data will be collected about you for this EES.
- Information in your travel documents
- Full name
- Date of birth
- Other things like that
- The date and the place of each entry and exit
- Facial image and fingerprints (called biometric data)
- If you don’t want your fingerprints or facial picture, then no entry for you.
- If you were refused entry
Go into effect
It was supposed to work like it does now, as of this post. However, they say it will be working by October 2025. If you aren’t a member of the EU, you will have to start using this. However, I don’t think it will be ready by then. I think it will be pushed until next year, but one never knows.
This website https://travel-europe.europa.eu/ees_en talks about it
I’m unsure which website you’ll use to sign up for or how much it will cost. But when I find out, I’ll update this post or post a new one. So stick around for that.
