If you are watching videos on YouTube or have been reading things. There is a lot of crap going on.
Crap
There is a lot of crap being said out there on YouTube, Google Search, and just everywhere. Yes, some things are happening. The gate agents can claim that the carry-on is too big to fit in the overhead compartment. Then, they charge you a fee and get a kickback.
I know fun, right? There isn’t a dang thing you can do about it. Gate agents have the last say.
If there is anything that airlines can make money from, they will.
Southwest
Even Southwest is charging baggage fees. Yes, you read that right. Southwest is getting away from the two checked bags that fly free. We charge for the bags unless you’re a premium seat holder. They are transitioning from the open seating concept to a system where you pick your seats. They even have premium seating. How times have changed. I loved flying Southwest due to the cheaper flights, free bags, and the open seating concept.
What can you do
If you plan to fly Delta, visit their website for more information. The baggage size page is here.
Here is some of the information from that page
Ensure your bag fits this size, or refer to the size check displays at ticket counters and gates.
- The combined length + Width + height of baggage must not exceed 45 linear inches (114 cm)
- Individual length does not exceed 22″ (56 cm). Width does not exceed 14″ (35 cm). Height does not exceed 9″ (23 cm).
- These measurements include any handles or wheels. They do not apply to small musical instruments that fit in the overhead compartment or under the seat.
Whatever airline you’re using, visit their website to check.
If you are flying with different airlines, check all of them and then go with the smaller size information. Then you will be fine on all the planes.
Watch
You must watch what other types of bags you carry on the plane. Some will limit it to a personal item and a backpack. You’ll need to check if you have a crossover bag or sling. I know, right? It sucks big time. You have to be careful nowadays.
Soon, you will be charged for your air and clothes.
You must be careful and stay current on what is allowed, and you will be fine.
