History

Brigham Young announced that the Temple would be built in Manti on June 25, 1875, and the site was dedicated on April 25, 1877.

The prophet Moroni, from the Book of Mormon, stood and dedicated this piece of land to the Temple site.

The Temple was completed in 1888, and from May 21-23, Lorenzo Snow was there when the temple was dedicated.

Temple

When the temple was completed, it was the third working temple in Utah.

  3. Manti

It was completed before the Salt Lake City Temple was completed. The temple has been bustling in its history.

A 1966 study found that 52% of temple work was done in Salt Lake, Logan, and Manti temples.

It stands on top of the hill where the settlers dug holes in it in November 1849 to survive the first winter.

Thoughts

This temple is a unique one indeed. It was the third built once the pioneers reached Utah, or the territory at the time. It helped serve the purpose of the Saints that spread out over southeastern Utah. It remains a busy place.
