Embarkation, Quantum   Recently updated !

Since it was cruise day back on Sept. 16, 2024, we are discussing the embarkation of the Quantum of the Seas. So let’s talk about it.

Getting There

Before we board, we will need to get to the ship. Usually, we come in the night before, but we don’t fly the day before. So are we going to get there? That is the question I am asking myself.

Our flight left SLC at 8 AM MDT, so we had to get up and leave early.

We left the house at about 5 AM and drove to the airport. But first, Breakfast. We stopped at McDonald’s

Then we headed to the airport.

We got to the parking spot, parked the car, and then went to the airport. We could check in for the flight on level 1 because they have a Delta check-in there. That isn’t for international flights. It was excellent and convenient.

I boarded the plane and flew to Seattle.

I got on the shuttle and was brought to the cruise port.

Cruise Port

Once at the port, we were a bit early and made our way through the line. Here is what we had to  do

  • The porter came to the shuttle bus to get the luggage. That is a first. We usually have to take them inside. But this is a good and efficient way to do it.
  • Before we entered the terminal, we had to show our passports—just the front cover. Some people didn’t have a passport, just a driver’s license.
  • We walked around the stairs and had to show our sail and sign cards.
  • Then we took the escalator to the send floor and went through security. Where the scanned carry on’s
  • Then we went to where we checked our passports and scanned the sea pass card again.
  • Then we made it onto the ship.
  • It’s pretty easy sailing.

Eating

Here are the places you could have eaten for lunch on Embarkation Day.

  • Café promenade
  • Sorrento’s
  • Dog House
  • Windjammer
  • Harp the horn
  • Solarium Bistro
  • Café 270

We opted for café 270, my wife saw in a YouTube video people that had a bag of chips, but there wasn’t any chips.

I got a salad, a Ruben sandwich, cookies, water, and lemonade.

We then walked around to the other places to see what they offered.

Thoughts

Now, I wouldn’t suggest that you fly in the day of your cruise. It always makes me nervous because something could go wrong. But I see a lot of people doing that on this cruise. This is the third one that we have flown on the day of. All of them have been West Coast cruises. I flew on the day of a cruise out of Florida, but that was a RedEye, and I would never do that again.

Going on the day of the cruise depends on where you are flying from and where you are going. I heard of a family flying in from the East Coast to the West Coast the day of the cruise and missing the cruise. Considering the time difference, you would think that is doable, but that didn’t work out.

I suggest always flying in the day before, but my wife doesn’t think so.
