Discovering the Magic of “Anastasia” the Play

My son gave us season tickets to Tucahn, the first one of which was Anastasia. Let’s find out more about this play.

If you are a fan of theater, history, or captivating stories, you will like Anastasia. If you didn’t know this already, the play is inspired by the animated film and the historical figure of Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaeva of Russia.

Let’s get into the play.

The Play

When watching the play, I wondered if it was based on a true story. But it is based on Anastasia Nikolaevna, so there is that.

As the play progresses, it discusses love, loss, and the pursuit of hope amid the uncertainty of early 20th-century Russia, artfully blending history and imagination.

Since this is a play/musical, there is music in it. I think that the music is what makes this play stand out as a good musical. Stephen Flaherty wrote the score, and the songs are both nostalgic and uplifting, giving life to the characters.

The characters were well-developed and portrayed as courageous and determined young women. But the supporting cast, including the conman Dmitry and the warm-hearted Vlad, adds both humor and depth to the play, thus making the journeys relatable and real.

I liked this play. It made me think about what they went through during that period. Anastasia is a great play, and I would highly suggest you watch it. Tuacahn puts on a good play.

It is never too late to discover who we are.
